No witty sub-head here

This week has felt like a bit of a slog, after my travels last weekend I didn’t get home from Plymouth until late on Sunday evening. My body has responded accordingly to the lack of rest and my cold has resurfaced with a vengeance.

As such this week has been a little up and down as my energy has dipped and returned. On Monday, thankfully, I wasn’t too busy. I had a few intro meetings and finalised workshop synthesis and the Sprint review deck for our project with Georgia. In between I pretty much rested and read.

Tuesday started with our sprint review and retro with the project team at Social Care Wales. It’s strange to think that since starting I’ve already completed a sprint with this team, but it went well. We also had a few discussions that meant we had a clear approach to user research for this next sprint, and I was able to pull together a research script by the end of the week.

We’re also trialling using Microsoft Planner with the team. I haven’t used this for a while but it’s relatively intuitive (for a MS thing) and easy to pick up again, plus the team seem happy to use it, which is good.

A selection of things I’ve tinkered with in Miro.

The rest of the week has been reading and thinking about network structures, reading lots of strategy and other documents, and just making things in Miro. That’s the thing I’ve been enjoying most so far… just building stuff in Miro. Even if it’s not useful right now, it’s nice to know it’s there and that I can add to it or improve it. It’s good to get my thoughts and things out quickly and easily and in a way that looks much more presentable than my usual scribblings.

And what else?

I volunteered to be the digi team comms person, collating stuff for our comms team which will be good. I’ve been asked to contribute to an intro session on product which will also hopefully be good. I also attended a show and tell about online harms and intimate image abuse which was really interesting.

I’ve had this conversation many times before with various people who have been pointed towards me to talk about communities and specifically about building communities. Often these conversations focus on building something new which completely misses the point that networks and communities exist already, so understanding and making visible what is there is the most important first point:

I started playing with Dovetail for research synthesis to remind myself and see if I might use it later, and I’ve ordered some new reading:

Aside from that I’ve just finished S1 of Succession which was incredible, started watching Trip Hazard (with Rosie Jones on channel 4) which was aired earlier in the year but I missed and which is very funny, and I’m intrigued and interested by Channel 4’s new woodworking show…

I’ve been listening to the new Parquet Courts album which is great. And I’ve signed up for another Design Dissolve course starting on Tuesday on “Designing for Resonance”.

OK and that’s quite enough for today. Lots of love — keep safe out there xx
